Audi Reportedly to Unveil All-Electric R8 Supercar at Frankfurt Auto Show

What's cooler than an Audi R8? One powered entirely by electricity, of course.
According to Google-translated reports in the German publication Auto Motor und Sport and the French publication L'Automobile, Audi will display an all-electric, zero-emissions version of its formidable R8 supercar at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show this September.
No details regarding the vehicle have been released. That's because there are no details releasable or otherwise, according to Audi spokesman Christian Bokich. His entire response to an email we sent him seeking confirmation of the electric R8: "Nope, not true."
As in bogus, faulty and entirely unfounded report. Nice going, Auto Motor und Sport and L'Automobile.
The gasoline-powered version (pictured) is a mid-engined sports car introduced in 2006. It is based on the "Audi Space Frame," largely derived from the Lamborghini Gallardo.
It might interest you to know that production of a single R8 requires 70 workers, who fit 5,000 unique parts by hand. The factory at Neckarsulm produces 15 cars a day, and 95 lasers are used to ensure that over 220 measurements are within 0.1 mm of the programmed plans.
