2009 LA Auto Show: BMW Discloses Pricing for U.S.-Bound 2011 ActiveHybrid 7

Just what the world needs: Another hybrid vehicle priced well beyond the means of most motorists.
But that's exactly what Bayerische Motoren Werke announced this week in disclosing the starting price of the 2011 ActiveHybrid 7 models during their North American debut at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show.
The most powerful hybrid luxury sedans will be priced from $103,125, including destination and handling fees, when they begin arriving in U.S. showrooms this spring. Add another $3,900 for the long wheelbase ActiveHybrid 7L.
The sedans feature the same 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 as found in the non-ActiveHybrid 750i, but are paired with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack to make 455 horsepower and 515 pound-feet of torque. That's an increase of 25 horsepower and 35 pound-feet of torque over the standard gasoline engine.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency hasn't yet published fuel economy figures for the ActiveHybrid 7 series sedans, but the best mileage of the five 2010 non-ActiveHybrid 7s is 15 miles per gallon in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. BMW says the hybrids are 17 percent more fuel efficient than their non-hybrid siblings.
