Phill Update: Repair or Maybe Even Full Replacement Is On the Way!

By John O'Dell December 18, 2009

phill.jpgGetting our Phill home natural gas fueling unit taken care despite the liquidation earlier this year of the company that made it is proving to be a fairly painless chore.

It could be that we're getting better-than-ordinary treatment because we have a bully pulpit from which to write about the process - if anyone else out there has had a Phill CNG pump repair or replacement issue in the past six months, let us know how you were treated - or it could be that the new owners are just good at customer service.

In any event, after trying and failing Wednesday evening at a home fix suggested by technician David Stubbings - who works for Phill's new owner, Impco Technologies - we called him this afternoon and he said he'd have the local service contractor send out a technician, perhaps as early as next week, before Christmas.

That technician, he said, would try to fix the unit we already have but also would bring a spare - from old stock, new units aren't being made yet - and do an immediate swap if ours can't be repaired in the field.

That's better than the contractors who fix kitchen appliances in my part of Southern California - it often takes two calls, one to diagnose and another to come back with the proper parts - to get something repaired.

So far, so good.
