Nissan, Japanese Post Office Team to Offer 'History of Electric Vehicle' Stamps

Nissan Motor Co. and the Minami Kanto regional office of the Japan Post Network Co. have teamed to sell original frame stamps titled "History of Cars: NISSAN Electric Vehicles."

According to a statement released by the two companies, the stamps' designs are based on Nissan's successive electric vehicles.

There are three catches.

The stamps will be sold in such limited quantities -  1,000 sheets in all at 10 stamps per sheet - and at such a reasonable cost, $13.30 a sheet, that they will likely sell out quickly when they go on sale at Japanese post offices Feb. 1. The sale will last until Aug. 31 or until supplies run out, whichever comes first.

And the third catch? They aren't available by mail order. So, unless you are in Japan next month or know someone in Japan willing to do you a favor, you likely won't have a chance to buy any of the stamps unless they go up on eBay, Craigslist or another site as a re-sale item.

The release of the stamps is timed to publicize the fact that Nissan is scheduled to offer its 2009 Leaf zero-emissions plug-in electric car later this year.
