2010 Geneva Auto Show: Ferrari Wants to Offer Hybrid Version of All of Its Models
By Scott Doggett March 3, 2010
Ferrari Chairman Luca di Montezemolo says he wants the Italian manufacturer of high-performance sports cars to offer hybrid versions across its entire lineup within the next three to four years.
The Ferrari executive made his comments at the press presentation of the automaker's 599 GTB Fiorano hybrid coupe model (pictured) at the 2010 Geneva Auto Show Tuesday.
"This is a first step of a long project and we want within three years, maximum four, to have a hybrid Ferrari car ready for every single product of our range. This is our goal," Montezemolo told reporters. "In three years we aim to cut emissions by a minimum of 35 percent."
Ferrari showed a prototype of its 599 GTB Fiorano with a hybrid powertrain called Hykers.
HY stands for hybrid, while KERS is a contraction of the Kinetic Energy Recuperation System, which the company used during the 2009 Formula One racing season.
