2011_nissan_LEAF_beside-colored-wall.jpgNissan North America today announced the upcoming start of order specifications for the 2011 Leaf battery-electric vehicle for those customers who have placed a reservation online.

Reservation holders will soon be able to choose the color and trim level of their Leaf, with ordering conducted on a first-come, first-served basis based on when the reservation was submitted online.

Over the next several weeks, reservation holders will begin to receive emails informing them how to submit an order. Among the instructions: Contact a dealer to negotiate a price and finalize the order for purchase or lease.

Once a consumer's order has been agreed with a dealer it will be placed in sequence for production and delivery according to the consumer's market, Nissan said in a statement. These future Leaf owners will be informed of an estimated delivery date upon completing the order process.

In March, Nissan announced SV and SL trim introductory pricing for the Leaf. Today, the company is providing additional information to reservationists, including detailed factory and port installed options content.

Toyota had better be careful in their choice of words when describing the car's specifications... for a few buyers, reading "No Charge For 36 Months" might just be enough to make them think it doesn't need to be electrically charged for 36 months. (we know it is discussing the roadside assistance... but you know how easily confused the buying public can be in a few instances).

It'd probably be best to avoid the words "no charge" when they mean "free".
