Mercedes-Benz to Debut Plug-in Hybrid Pickup Truck Concept at Paris Auto Show
By Scott Doggett September 28, 2010One of the most unusual-looking vehicles to appear at the 2010 Paris Auto Show starting later this week will undoubtedly be a plug-in hybrid pickup truck "concept study" by MBtech, the Mercedes-Benz technology consultancy, a rendering of which appears here.
The four-seat Reporter pickup is designed for a 100-horsepower, 1.2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that runs on either natural gas or gasoline.
That engine drives the front wheels, while a 70-kilowatt electric motor powers the rear wheels. It's a power configuration we've seen before that's gaining in popularity these days with Bright and PSA/Peugeot.
MBtech gives as the concept's maximum range 185 miles and says the Reporter has a top speed of 80 mph, while its range on electrons between charges is said to be 34 miles.
MBtech says that further versions of the Reporter will follow. Good.
