Big Three meet with the Prez

Tomorrow is the day -- finally. The Big Three executives, including Ford's new chief Alan Mulally, meet with President Bush.

Mulally said he just wants to lay out the state of the industry and competitive issues for Bush. Those issues include exchange rates, commodity prices like steel prices, tariffs and employee and retiree health care costs, benefits and pensions.

What will they drive to the momentous event? Mulally will drive a Ford Escape Hybrid, GM's Rick Wagoner a Saturn Vue Green Line hybrid and Chrysler's Tom LaSorda a Chrysler Sebring.

One wonders after last week's election results if President Bush, who previously said Detroit has to build cars people want to buy and live up to its promises to employees, will be more sympathetic.
