Smart: 20,000 Orders
By Michelle Krebs June 6, 2007DaimlerChrysler AG's distributor for the Smart minicar has almost 20,000 paid U.S. "reservations" for the two-seaters, Smart USA President Dave Schembri said.
The Smart Fortwos go on sale in January, will sell for less than $12,000 for the base model to about $17,000 for a convertible.
Smart USA, owned by United Auto Group Inc., began accepting the $99 fees in March.
