On a Lighter Note: Animal Sacrifice or Animal Giveaway?
By Michelle Krebs September 5, 2007Maybe automakers are going about this sales thing all wrong.
Maybe what they need is a good old-fashioned animal sacrifice to please the gods into delivering higher sales. Or maybe they need a clever marketing gimmick -â like giving away an animal with every vehicle sale.
Reuters reports Wednesday that officials at Nepal Airlines have sacrificed two goats to appease Akash Bhairab, the Hindu sky god, following technical problems with one of its Boeing 757 aircraft, the carrier said Tuesday.
The state-run airline in Nepal, where sacrifice of animals like goats and buffaloes to appease Hindu deities is routine, was forced to suspend some services to other Asian cities of its two Boeing aircraft in recent weeks due, reportedly, to an electrical fault.
The goats were sacrificed in front of the troublesome aircraft Sunday at Nepal's only international airport in Kathmandu in accordance with Hindu traditions, an airline official told the wire service.
Meantime, proving once again that car dealers are a rare breed, an Australian dealer, attempting to boost August sales, announced the giveaway of a kangaroo with each new car purchase.
While it appears the people who purchased vehicles from the dealership didnât accept the free kangaroos, the âKangaroo Promotionâ did succeed in drawing attention to the dealership as it led the evening news throughout the land and created a public outcry.
Time will tell if the animal sacrifice worked out.
