The Lighter Side of the Auto Beat
November 09, 2007
It’s been a grueling week for serious automotive business: more financial losses for General Motors and Ford fueling fears of more job cuts; a lousy economic outlook with oil skyrocketing near $100 a barrel and the U.S. dollar at the bottom of the barrel; and a jittery stock market.
So now for something completely different to end the week on a lighter note.
Our favorite, The Onion, offers a mock television interview of executives from GM, Ford and Toyota, which, as the title suggests, dashes the hopes for a flying car in our future. By the way, its sponsor is Ford, advertising the Escape Hybrid.
On a similar technology note, a video from the Handyman Corner shows how a vehicle with both all-wheel drive and four-wheel steering isn’t just for the rich, but for the poor as well with a little -– no, a lot –- of duct tape and a couple of Chrysler K cars.
Enjoy.

We are in our 70's and remember attitudes and bad cars thru the years. I have been driving a Toyota car since March of 1975. The rest is history; nothing but Toyotas since then. Drove in the Impala and to us it is not as good inside as far as room as the Camry. Grandson getting my '99 Solara and will get my new one next week; husband driving a 2007 Avalon. Others in family noting our success with such wonderful cars are driving Toyotas, too. New cars can look great on the outside but the proof is on the inside of the car. We never knew such politeness bringing a car in for service until I started driving my first Toyota.
