Chevy Volt Web Site Generates Buzz
By Michelle Krebs January 28, 2008A Web site for fans of the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid, which GM hopes to have in production by the end of 2010, says it has now collected the names of more than 10,000 people who want to buy one of the cars, according to Edmundsâ Green Car Advisor.
In an item posted on its site Saturday, GM-Volt.com said it is logging more than 100,000 "visitors" a month and has a "waiting list" that has surpassed the 10,000 mark.
The site was started by New York physician Lyle Dennis within days after GM introduced the Volt as a concept car in January 2007 at the Detroit auto show.

First of all, this nonsense from GM creating an electric car that is for those who only travel 40 miles per day should be scrutinized from the gitgo. Well documented is that GM HAD an electric car back in the mid 90's, the EV-1. When they fought and had California's emission requirements overturned the car was destroyed. GM claimed the demand wasn't there to warrant mass production AND that the technology only provided for a car with 100 mile range between charges...which was a lie because battery technology at the end of the car's production cycle had evolved so that a 250-300 mile range could be accomodated in a cost-effective way. 12 years later GM announces the Chevy Volt...with a range of not 100, not 250, not 300...40 miles between charges. Am I the only one that believes GM is not serious about building an electric car but rather simply wants to create a nice PR image? Absolutely unbelievable...it's criminal.
What is not to love about a car that gets 640 on a full tank and looks great?
