Fisker Eyes Detroit To Build Hybrid Sports Car

Fisker Automotive, which unveiled its Karma luxury sports car at the Detroit auto show earlier this month, said it is considering building the plug-in hybrid in the Detroit area.
Former BMW and Volvo exec, Vic Doolan, now Fisker's director of retail development, told the Detroit Free Press the Southern California company is attracted to Michigan for its experienced workforce, unused production capacity, and supplier network.
He said the company is still in an âexploratory stageâ as it talks with potential suppliers to build the vehicle. As for locating in Michigan, âIt does make a lot of sense,â he said.
The Irvine, California-based Fisker has promised to deliver the first Karma by the end of 2009. The company claims the Karma can travel 620 miles using the battery pack and onboard gas-powered generator. The first 50 miles come from a battery pack, which can be charged in a household outlet.
