BMW Sales Rise; Mini Sales Soar

BMW reported Monday its global sales rose 8.2 percent in March, with sales increases
across the line from Mini to Rolls-Royce and BMW brand in between.
BMW expects record sales this year, and Mini sales to reach 240,000 vehicles for the first time, in part, due to the addition of the longer Clubman wagon, just going on sale in the U.S. Mini is airing its first television commercial since it began selling cars in the States.
The BMW Group sold 153,184 vehicles in March up from 141,576 vehicles a year earlier. First-quarter sales climbed 5.7 percent to 351,787 vehicles. The BMW brand had sales rise 5.3 percent to 126,406 vehicles. Mini sales increased 24 percent in March to 26,693 cars. Roll-Royce brand sales climbed 70 percent to 85 cars.
BMW expects record sales this year, surpassing last year's record of 1.5 million vehicles.
"Amongst our relevant competitors in the premium segment, we still remain number one,'' Ian Robertson, sales and marketing chief, said in the statement. "We are also on course to set new records for all three brands for the year as a whole.''
