Chrysler Boosts Sales -- Outside North America
April 08, 2008
Chrysler, which has lagged General Motors and Ford in expansion overseas, announced its
sales outside of North America rose 7 percent in March and 9 percent in the first quarter, thanks, in part, to strong demand for its vehicles in Russia and China.
Chrysler sold 24,032 vehicles outside North America in March and 57,346 vehicles in the first quarter. Chrysler sold 2,139 vehicles in Russia during the quarter, a 94 percent increase. China sales doubled to 4,839 vehicles. Chrysler introduced the locally-built Sebring in China in March, boosting sales by 1,000 units.
The Jeep brand is Chrysler’s top seller abroad, selling 22,699 vehicles in the first quarter for an 11-percent increase. Dodge sales rose 46 percent to 17,371 vehicles. Chrysler-brand models fell 15 percent to 17,276.
