Audi Will Not Achieve 2008 U.S. Sales Goal

Volkswagen's Audi doesn't expect to reach its goal of 100,000 U.S. sales this year because of the country's financial crisis. Audi's top U.S. executive Johan de Nysschen told Bloomberg News in an interview Monday "given the economic climate right now, 100,000 will probably not be in the cards."

He added: "We all had anticipated some degree of economic adversity. We didn't imagine the largest one-day drop in the history of mankind,"' he said, referring to the nearly 800-point in the Dow Jones Industrial Average on Sept. 29.

Audi sales for the first nine months of this year total 65,817, down 3.9 percent from 2007. Sales for all of 2007 totaled 93,508. Audi looked to break the 100,000 mark this year.
