Joke's on the Auto Sector - As Usual

The auto industry is an easy target for comics and this week's acquisition of the Chrysler Group by Fiat and the announcement of General Motors Corp.'s new chairman added new fuel to the comedic pyre.

Two of this week's best:

Late Night's Jimmy Fallon on the naming of longtime AT&T Inc. exec Edward Whitacre Jr. as chairman of the "new" GM, after Whitacre said he has no knowledge about cars:
Whitacre "admits he doesn't know anything about cars. I respect that -- he's keeping up the GM tradition."

The Tonite Show's Conan O'Brien, on Fiat's plan to use American labor to build Italian products, said the company took its lead from Olive Garden.

And there was this segment last night on NBC Nightly News - The yellow and red Little Tikes Cozy Coupe sold more than 457,000 units in 2008 – more than any other car in the U.S. NBC’s Brian Williams reports. (Nightly News)

From what I hear, there's more than a few people who would like to see Whitacre back at AT&T, and I mean that in a good way.
