GM Guarantee Continuing to Increase Buyer Consideration

General Motors 60-day moneyback guarantee is generating increased interest in Buick, GM Ed Whitacre ad - 359.JPGCadillac, Chevrolet and GMC vehicles, according to Edmunds.com.

Shopping consideration for GM vehicles on Edmunds.com's Web site -- which can suggest future sales -- has trended upward in the last three days, in the range of a 15 to 17 percent.

Chevrolet and GMC are getting the biggest consideration lifts from the ad campaign, according to Edmunds.com's data. Specific models getting more shopper attention than before are: the new Chevrolet Camaro sports car; the near-twin GMC Yukon and Chevrolet Tahoe SUVs; the new GMC Acadia crossover; and the GMC Sierra pickup.

The 15 to 17 percent boost in GM shopper consideration is even higher than the 10-percent rise seen over the weekend after GM announced the  "May the Best Car Win" campaign, and the accompanying advertisements, featuring government-appointed chairman Ed Whitacre, hit the airwaves on Sunday. The ad blitz has continued through this week.

The current consideration increase is higher than the consideration bump Gm got in California from its program with eBay Motors to list dealer inventories of Buick, GMC and Chevrolet vehicles on the site.

It is on par with the 15-percent hike Hyundai saw when launched its Hyundai Assurance program, according to Edmunds.com data. --  Michelle Krebs, Senior Analyst and Editor at Large

I wonder how many people will take advantage of this program to drive a Corvette or Camaro almost free for two months?

carguy - you misunderstand the program. You can only do a limited mileage and have less than $200 of wear and tear/damage on it. So on a Camaro or Corvette I expect the tires are expensive - you couldn`t do thousands of fun filled miles in 2 months with it then give it back.

There is a $500 rebate alternative to the bring-back deal. I think the current moneyback promotion was put in place to mainly generate interest and showfloor traffic. Once they get to the F&I Dept., they'll be presented with the rebate alternative.
