The Southern California-based vehicle developer and would-be manufacturer of the three-wheel, wingless-aircraft shaped Aptera 2e, said it is updating its previously rejected application for a $75 million loan from the program that would help finance its anticipated 2010 manufacturing launch.

The company said it has received more than 4,000 advance orders for the battery-electric 2e version of the unique-looking vehicle.

Aptera has said that in addition to the two-seat battery-electric model, it plans to build plug-in hybrid and, possibly,  gasoline-fueled versions  and four-seat models with hybrid and EV powertrains.

Initial pricing of the Aptera 2e is $25,000, rising to as much as $40,000 with various options including other powertrains as they are added to the lineup.
