GM, Ford Pony Cars Gallop to Photo Finish

The winner of the sales race between the Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang will be 2010 Chevrolet Camaro - 240.JPGrevealed when the auto industry reports sales Tuesday. And the finish will be a close one.

General Motors already is hailing a victory, announcing the Camaro will win. And, based on Edmunds.com estimates, it's possible even though at the end of November Mustang was ahead.

"It looks feasible that the Camaro could outsell Mustang," said Edmunds.com Analyst Ivan Drury. "The two will be only a thousand or two thousand units apart when final sales are reported."

Still, through the end of the November, the Mustang was ahead.

Based on sales through the end of November, Edmunds.com was predicting a Mustang win, with year-ended sales forecasted at 63,296 Mustangs versus 61,300 Camaros. The Dodge Challenger is running a distant third in the muscle car race.

However, sales of the two vehicles were going in opposite directions; Camaro sales were rising month to month while and Mustang sales were falling.

I wonder if Mustang sales have slowed because people are waiting for the 2011 models with the new engines; both V6 and V8; the standard V6 having very nearly the power of the 2010 V8 Mustang GT, As this is a fairly recent announcement, it may be too early to tell. But how are hits for the 2011 Mustang doing vs the 2010 Camaro & Challenger on Edmunds.com ?

You may want to check the labeling on the Market Shae chart. You have the Dodge and Mustang reversed.
