Ford Mustang Gains on Chevrolet Camaro

By Michelle Krebs July 1, 2010

The new Ford Mustang is gaining on the Chevrolet Camaro for sales.

The Mustang overtook the Camaro in June. The Camaro's percentage decline in June was nearly the amount that Mustang gained in sales.

But the Camaro remain significantly ahead of Mustang for the first six months of the year.

In June, Ford sold 8,974 Mustangs, which include the new version. That was a nearly 18-percent increase from June 2009.

General Motors sold 7,540 Camaro models in June, a 19-percent decline from a year ago.

The half-time score is 46,378 Camaro models sold to 40,035 Mustangs, making it one of the races to watch for 2010.

2010 mustang has huge incentives and mustang sales were higher in MAy when more 2010s were on sale.

Great point. There are no, $0 incentives on the Camaro available to the general public. Never have been any. Even the GM employees deal is around $1000-1200 off MSRP. And I can tell you that Camaro inventories of 2010s is very low right now. Strong numbers to be sure given the incentives that Ford is offering on the previous model Mustang.
