Edmunds.com Editor Named to National Research Council Committee
By Bill Visnic September 29, 2010John O'Dell, editor of Edmunds.com's Green Car Advisor blog, has been appointed to a prestigious panel reporting to the U.S. Congress about the future of advanced-technology vehicles and alternative fuels.
O'Dell was confirmed this week to be a member of the National Research Council's Committee on Transitions to Alternative Vehicles and Fuels, a group impaneled to prepare a report to Congress and the public on the estimated of costs, benefits, timing, and policy and R&D needs of the various light-duty vehicle and transportation fuels options for reducing petroleum consumption and greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. through 2050.
O'Dell was the founding editor of Green Car Advisor went the site went live in 2007.
The National Research Council is part of the National Academies of Science and conducts all manner of research for various public endeavors, including a currently ongoing study of vehicle unintended acceleration.
The Committee on Transitions to Alternative Vehicles and Fuels study was mandated by Congress and the first meeting is in Washington, D.C. Oct 21-22. The committee's 2-year appointment runs to 2012.
