A 2011 Volkswagen Jetta for $5,995 through Gilt Groupe
By Michelle Krebs December 13, 2010Volkswagen of America will sell three 2011 Volkswagen Jetta cars for $5,995 -- about $10,000 less than its starting list price -- through a partnership with the Gilt Groupe, an e-commerce company that offers its members insider prices on goods.
Volkswagen is the first automotive brand to be sold on Gilt, or any flash sale site in the U.S. The automaker will donate proceeds from the sale to Dress for Success, a non-profit group that provides job interview attire for low-income women.
Beginning Dec. 15, Gilt will sell the 2011 Jetta for $5,995; the Jetta has a starting price of $15,995. On day one, the sale will only be accessible through Gilt mobile applications via the iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, and Android devices. On Dec. 16 and 17, the sale will take place on Gilt.com as well as through the mobile applications.
Each Jetta will be presented in a "Gilt Gold" wrap. After the sale, Volkswagen will offer Gilt members who add the Jetta to their "Wait List" a special incentive that can be redeemed at participating Volkswagen dealerships nationwide.
"Partnering with Gilt was a natural fit for Volkswagen as both brands have customers who value style, sophistication, and quality products at an attainable price," said Tim Ellis, Volkswagen of America vice president of marketing in a statement. "By creating a special price of $5,995 for each Jetta on Gilt, Volkswagen has taken our tagline, 'Great for the Price of Good' to a new level that will certainly create excitement and attention."Online previews of the vehicles go live today ahead of the Wednesday event.
VW's partnership with Gilt comes on the heels of a giveaway of the upcoming Volkswagen New Beetle on Oprah. The redesigned New Beetle will be given away to 275 members of Oprah's audience.
