A Chevy Every 6.7 Seconds
By AutoObserver Staff October 6, 2011General Motors Co.s effort to emphasize its Chevrolet brand across the globe likely will deliver a record sales year for Chevy, GM executives said this week. Chevrolets current worldwide sales pace will see it surpassing in 2011 its prior global sales record of 4.4 million units, the company said, adding that at todays sales rates, a Chevrolet is sold every 6.7 seconds. Officials did not forecast by how much Chevy might exceed its prior global sales record, however.
Cristi Landy, director of Chevrolet marketing, said the brands drive is being fueled by the success of newer nameplates such as the Cruze, which year-to-date is the best-selling compact car in the United States. Landy also told journalists this week that the Cruze currently is the fourth most-purchased vehicle of any kind for buyers under 25 years of age.
